Jeff Towns Art Car Lights up and Burns Rubber

Jeff Towns has managed to combine the best of three worlds, Art, Safety and Burnt Rubber. He has turned his 80's Oldsmobile art car in to a glow in the dark burning rubber monster machine. Nice work.

Turbo VW Radio Flyer Art Car
Hot Turbo VW Radio Flyer Art Car Built by Toby Hall
Toby Hall is one of those people who will forever remain a kid at heart, just by looking at his latest creation. He recently built a full size Radio Flyer on a VW bug chassis, with a 1641cc flat-four and a Renault 5 turbo that will turn heads and burn rubber. Toby got the idea by watching Tool Time on TV during an episode when Tim the Toolman brought home a motorized Radio Flyer as a Christmas gift. He knew instantly that he had to build one and then went out and got busy. Toby spent a lot of time building his new toy with a tubed frame, bomber style seats, exposed engine and a great paint job. One the coolest features is the tow that can be pulled both by car and by hand when the handle is tilted down. Toby's Radio Flyer was just featured in this months volksworld magazine out of the UK and its my prediction that his art car will go viral. So glad we could have another hot Radio Flyer along with the one Bob Castaneda built in the US back in 1996.

Perry Watkins took the frame of the "Postman Pat" children's ride in the UK and mounted it on a quad mini-bike, using its 150cc engine. The car has a windshield wiper, lights and signals, mirrors, fire paint job, fake racing exhaust pipes and engine blower. It can hit a top speed of 40 MPH, it is now legal to drive on the road and has received confirmation that his creation - only 39in high and 26in wide - is the smallest car ever built. Also world's most expensive chiropractor bill.

CarPuchino - Car Powered by Coffee Grinds
For those of us who plan their trips from coffee shop to coffee shop finally a better solution. A car that is powered entirely by roasted coffee grinds is now a reality, I can feel my hear raising as I write this.

The car is called the Car-Puchino and was created using a 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco that sorta looks like a time traveling DeLorean from back to the future. It was created by a team from BBC1 science program Bang Goes The Theory and driven 210 miles between Manchester and London.

It does about 60mph and uses about 2.2 lbs of coffee for every three miles or 56 espressos per mile (56epm). Its going to take 154 lbs so price depends on the type of coffee you use:
  1. Premium = Kona Coffee = $30/lb = $4,620
  2. Plus = Starbucks Breakfast Blend = $10/lb = $1,154
  3. Regular = Folgers = $5/lb = $770
A trip like this is a bit of grind since you have to stop every 40 miles to add coffee grinds, every 60 to clean out the coffee filters. Even with a top speed of maybe 60 mph a relatively short trip could take all day to complete. On the plus side, there will be plenty of coffee and bathroom breaks.

I wrote about Steven Heller some time ago when I featured his 1960 Cadillac Fin Attaché Case. He has spent many years building furniture out of vintage cars parts and now his journey heads off in a new direction. Most people who restore old cars stick with old cars, but Steve modifies new cars and adds vintage car parts like fins, grills and other accessories from cars made in the 50's and 60's. Steven has been busy building and receiving awards for his work and is working towards his TV show, Heller on Wheels. His has an amazing passion for what he does and says in his video that he was put on earth to build custom cars and rocket ships. I am looking forward to seing his new creation the Cro-Magnum.

It is really cool and will be entered into several of the most important auto shows. This car is featured in the promo and the build will be featured in the season 1 series.

Haz-Mat Hatch Art Car
Haz-Mat Hatch Art Car by Todd
Battle Wagon and Haz-Mat Hatch is another couple of those futuristic apocalypse mad-max art cars created by Todd up in there in Washington State. They might look ugly but they got it were it counts, two high-octane hi-carb Subaru wagons that hall out in a hurry when the mutants come chasing the day after. Todd said "this is the extent of my mid life crises" and "everyday is a parade in this car". Nice work Todd.

BMW Sharpie Art Car Hood by Travis Todd
This BMW Sharpie art car was created by South Louisiana artist named Travis Todd. He used a 2001 BMW 330 as his canvas and drew for 12 hours straight to complete his work of art with a sharpie. Unfortunately his car was vandalised some time later. There are more pictures and a complete story about his car via.

Tornado Attack Car by Steve Green

The question is asked is Steve Green's Tornado Attack Car an Art Car. My answer is a big YES. Steve Green has mastered the art of staying alive inside a tornado by building a custom car that can withstand an attack from mother nature. He did this by building a car with military grade windows that was pretty much impervious to high winds and the ability to drop to the ground in seconds preventing the car from getting sucked up. Steve Green used to be a NASCAR driver and that is also why the car looks so much like a race car. More info here.

Here is a great video about these Japanese Decotora Trucks I posted some time ago. The pictures are great but you really need to seem them live and this video does them justice. They explain the history of how all this got started and they interview some of the truckers and artists who help create these amazing works of art.

The AeroCar 600 is a 1959 BMW 600 turned airplane! Created by Dave Major, this little vehicle is as much airplane as it is car. It has a handmade propeller turned by a 12 volt electric motor, a tail from a real airplane and tires from a Beech Jet 400A. It even has a custom dash with a working altimeter, airspeed indicator and aircraft compass! The car is street legal and has a 600cc 2 cylinder air cooled BMW engine in the rear. The front of the car opens up to allow "the pilot" to enter the aircraft. Dave displays the car at a variety of car shows where it is quite popular. The Aerocar 600 also appears in many art car parades around the country.

Red Double Decker Car

This Red Double Decker Car is ideal for those wanting to relieve their trip to London last summer. You can drive through town and relive the sound of trees hitting the upper deck every day of your life. You can pick up as many hitchhikers as you want and on your lunch break you can go upstairs and just hang out.

When the government final takes over every aspect of our lives they will also get into the car making business. And of course we know that the government is so efficient in everything that they do and produce, what does the government actually produce now? Anyways, this video is a commercial for Congressional Motors and the new Pelosi Car that will be coming out in 2012. This car will take 100 billion dollars to make and it will take the entire congress to design it. The Peloci Car will have an MSRP of only $629,999.95 (that's inflation dollars) but it will help save the planet in a big way. I am so excited about this and you will be too after you see this fantastic video.

Yep this guy is definitely "chilling" in his Cadillac Coffin Art Car. It must be a Cadillac because it has the Cadi logo and the Cadi grill up front. It also comes with nice rims, sound system and leather reclining seats. It must a convertible as well.
